The teenage girl Sahar Gul, was imprisoned, tortured, and abused for several months by her husband and his family. She was only 16 years old.
Aisha's father promised her to a Taliban fighter when she was 12 years old as compensation for a killing that a family member had committed. She was married at 14 and subjected to abuse. At 18, she fled the abuse but was caught by the police, jailed for five months, and returned to her family. Her father returned her to her husband's family. To take revenge for her escape, her father-in-law, husband, and three other family members took Aisha into the mountains, cut off her nose and her ears, and left her to die. Aid workers and the U.S. military later rescued Aisha.
Rajni, five years old, was woken up at 4 am and carried by her uncle to be married in a secret ceremony.
Nujood Ali was nine when her parents arranged a marriage to Faez Ali Thamer, a man in his thirties. Regularly beaten by her in-laws and raped by her husband, Ali escaped on April 2, 2008, two months after the wedding. She went directly to court to seek a divorce.
